PSV’s perfect start in Eredivisie has come to an end after Ajax beat the league leaders 3-2, a match where U.S. international Malik Tillman’s costly error cosigned the winner for the home side.
PSV, the defending Dutch champions, were the better side statistically in this fixture and opened the match with a 1-0 lead thanks to Luuk de Jong’s opener in the 18th minute. Davy Klaassen would respond with the equalizer for Ajax in the 43rd minute.
De Godenzonen would take over in the second half though. After Ivan Perisic and Kian Fitz-Jim traded goals in the first 20 minutes of the second half, Ajax would capitalize on an errant pass from Tillman to score what would be the game-deciding goal from Mika Godts. The American immediately covered with his face with his kit after the mistake.
Fellow U.S. international Ricardo Pepi was brought on late to chase the equalizer but Ajax would hold on for a massive result.
